Rather than buy, should I invest?

I was talking with friends recently about the banking crisis and other boring stuff, but we ended up on quite an interesting topic.

One of them was telling us that he heard if instead of buying his old Mac computer from Apple ten years ago he had invested that money in Apple shares instead, he would have made £80,000 by now. He was pretty much cursing himself for it, but who knew then how big Apple was going to grow with their computers, MacBooks, iMacs, iPods, iPhones and iPads? Well, someone must've, and cashed in big time.

I wish I could invest some of my money in something that I know will grow and make me some big money. I was thinking of getting investment advice from a company like Rowan Dartington, because they should really have their finger on the pulse with what's going to make money!

Making Technology Fun

There are absolutely loads of products out there that make technology a bit more fun and engaging for kids and adults alike.

A friend of mine who works at a magazine got sent a bright pink Hello Kitty laptop, and while she thought it was terribly childish and girly for her to ever use herself, her daughter adores it!

Flash memory drives are always on offer in some pretty spectacular casings - mini airplanes, Lego figures, Spongebob or even a mini Tiffany shopping bag!

Hannspree sell TVs and computer screens embedded in teddy bears, toy buses and giant plush footballs that would look great in a kid's room, and they're not as pricey as you'd think.

There are lots of ways to make computing and technology fun, and some great products to help you along the way if you're struggling.

A Distraction?

I recently read a piece about a school in Reading using 3D technology to help the children learn. The lessons would revolve around images being beamed onto a whiteboard with the idea that it would make lessons more interactive.

However a 3d school sounds like a big distraction to me! 3D films and now games is associated with fun, so surely the kids will switch off the learning mode.

Now don’t get me wrong I am not a killjoy as I can imagine being in a lesson would be quite exciting, but also a distraction.

The equipment alone is very expensive and each pair of glasses has to be bought separately. With all the cuts in education I can imagine it will take off with loads of schools introducing it because they just wont be able to afford it.

I suppose the only good thing is if makes the kids be quiet and listen then that is an achievement and with an ever-changing array of technology to keep kids minds preoccupied, keeping up with them on the education side might help.

LIKE FILMS?

I love to curl up on the sofa with some popcorn and watch a good movie. So instead of forking out for a DVD every week, I decided to sign up for a free 30-day trial at Lovefilm.
My first DVD was the Disney film UP. It was the best Disney film I have seen. It made me laugh and cry! Once I had watched that all I needed to do was send it back freepost in the envelope they sent and wait for my next one to come through.
By the end of that week I had my next DVD, this time The Time Traveller’s Wife. Again, a really good film.
At the end of the trial I could then select my subscription or cancel it. I decided to continue and will be paying £3.99 a month for 2 DVD’s. I think it is a really good offer and a lot cheaper than buying the DVD’s myself. I also got a £10 voucher for Dorothy Perkins, Topshop or Burtons. Highly recommend it to anyone!

THIS WEEK'S NEW DVD RELEASE

Ridley Scott's epic Robin Hood is on release from today. Russell Crowe takes on the role as the famous Robin Hood, but before he was an outlaw. Joined with an all-star cast including Cate Blanchett, Max von Sydow, William Hurt and Matthew Mcfadyen.
The story is another attempt to bring to life the well-know tales of Robin Hood. In my opinion the film takes the better option of taking the 'before' angle of his life and it is how you would imagine life would be in 13th century England.
There are a few places that are a little dreary, but overall the film delivers and it is generally very entertaining. If you go online and purchase the DVD from Tescos you can also get another film in the Blu Ray DVD half price! Bargain.
